El Salvador offers two different kinds of cryptocurrency licences:
1) Licence for Bitcoin Service Provider (BSP). Businesses which offer a range of Bitcoin-related services, like trading Bitcoins for cash, accepting payments in Bitcoin, or keeping Bitcoins on behalf of customers, must obtain this licence. The Central Reserve Bank is in charge of issuing BSP licences in accordance with the Bitcoin Act.
2) Licence for Digital Asset Service Provider (PSAD). Businesses that offer a range of services linked to other cryptocurrencies must have this licence. The National Digital Assets Commission is in charge of registering service providers, asset issuers, and certifying organisations in accordance with the new Digital Assets Act.
