Grocers, Fruit & Vegetable Stores Industry Terminology

ABC Analysis

A method of ranking SKUs by value and/or velocity (A = most important, C = least) to prioritize space, service levels, and labor. Helps focus on top movers like bananas, onions, and berries in produce.

- "Run an ABC analysis to decide which 20% of SKUs drive 80% of produce sales." - "A-items get daily culling and prime space; C-items move to secondary displays." - "Use ABC to set tighter safety stock on A SKUs and reduce it on C SKUs."

Average Basket Size

Average spend or items per transaction, used to gauge upsell/cross-sell effectiveness in produce and the broader store.
