Understand the Credit Quality of the Debtors

Before purchasing accounts receivable, it is essential to thoroughly assess the creditworthiness of the underlying debtors. The value of accounts receivable is only as strong as the ability of the customers to pay what they owe. Obtain detailed aging reports, credit histories, and payment patterns for each debtor. Review concentration risk; if one or two customers make up a large percentage of the receivable pool, your investment is especially vulnerable to their financial health.
